How to get a net worth certificate
- List assets and loans. Property, bank balances, investments, gold, vehicles — and any loans.
- Collect proof. Keep documents ready for every figure.
- Get it verified. A practising CA checks the documents and generates UDIN.
- Sign and use. The CA signs on letterhead; you submit it for the stated purpose only.
Common questions
Is UDIN compulsory on a CA certificate?
Yes. ICAI requires a Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN) on every certificate signed by a practising Chartered Accountant. Generate it on udin.icai.org after finalising the figures, and quote it on the certificate.
Which format should be followed?
The format follows the ICAI Guidance Note on Reports or Certificates for Special Purposes: purpose, responsibilities, basis, certificate and restriction on use, with an annexure of figures.
Which documents are needed?
For net worth: property deeds or valuation reports, bank statements, FD receipts, demat and mutual fund statements, policy and PF statements, vehicle RC and loan statements. For turnover: audited financial statements, ITRs and GST returns.
Can only a CA issue this?
Yes. This tool prepares a draft. The certificate must be verified and signed by a practising Chartered Accountant on the firm’s letterhead.
